Inequality Can Be Defined As Opportunities Distributed

Inequality can be defined as opportunities distributed to different individuals in a society in an unequal distribution. Education is known to be the great equalizer of society, However, unequal distribution of educational resources negates this very concept. In education, a crucial measure of child s performance their socioeconomic status. Difference in social background results in differences in achievement within an academic field. Studies have shown that the higher the socioeconomic status, the more access to better education, and educational resources such as tutoring and extra educational classes. This is because the individual student s success depends on their parents income and where they live. ( Lareau 401) Middle class families are well involved in their children lives. They are also encouraging their childre n to engage in extracurricular activities, get involve in active participation in school that will drive them to question things beyond their capacity. While children of working class families do not necessarily demand the active participation of their children but rather delegate order for them to carry out in their daily lives. In addition, less attention is given to children of working class and poor families because they are deemed responsibly enough to carry out task independently. Based on Anyon’s research the level of one’s social class depends on the level of education a child is able to receive. Children of the middle class family are able to receive the higher quality of education because of the resources and the wide arrange of creativity that is allowed in the classrooms. Whereas children of the working class family lack many of those resources leaving them to be less creative and less well rounded. The two elementary schools labeled of working class families, lacked severely compared to those of a higher class. The teachers did not give clear direction of task, or showed any desire to help students who were struggling with their work. Beowulf Is An Interesting Text - 932 Words

Beowulf is an interesting text. The author is unknown. A little about the text is that it is the longest surviving, old English poem that is cited as one of the most important works from the old English literature. We don’t even know the full title. We know very little about how this poem came to be but we know that some of the things we take out of it can still be seen today. It was a poem based off of the Anglo Saxons and how they saw their people and how they would risk everything to save their country. The main guy in this play is called Beowulf and he starts big things in this poem like getting individual recognition. There are 3 things that motivate Beowulf’s actions. The first thing that motivated Beowulf and what he did was the glory that he will receive. Back in the Anglo Saxon time the one thing that everyone tried to get was glory. Beowulf started out as a nobody in some other kingdom and he was told that one of the nicest halls was not even being occupied because of this man eating monster called Grendel. So he feels up to the challenge to go and kill this monster. Beowulf gets the land of Roth the king of the Danes and is really respected full to him and Beowulf introduces himself as a worthy warrior to fight the beast. Beowulf not only defeats Grendel, but he does it with his bare hands. He tricks the monster and ends up ripping the monster’s arm off. Art As Liberty Of Life Essay Art is an expression of life, which means it expresses emotions. Creation that allows for interpretation of any kind is art. I have read that art is a human skill as opposed to nature, a skill applied to music, painting, poetry etc I believe that nature is art as well. If something is made a certain way, it is beautiful in its own right. In my opinion, I believe there is a God who is an artist that created everything. Interpreting art depends on a person experiences, their visionary thoughts, culture, and associations. Art is like love; there can be so many definitions and examples for each. Therefore, I believe art is not perfection; art is something that continues to develop as it is seen, meaning to open all human capacities, thoughts and emotions. Art is a creation that represents liberty to whatever the viewer wants art to be, either the person who created it or the person who is viewing art. Art is to enable those experiences to be intelligible and recognized within the thoughts and emotions of the world. An example that was brought up in class was a picture of a dot on a canvas. What was the artist thinking when he created this? A fellow classmate asked, How do we know that the artist was not genuinely conveying a feeling or an emotion on the canvas? I really cannot say what the artists message was for me, but I felt that he wanted to have the viewer relate themselves to the art. The person looking at the picture would have to find a meaning for themselves. Is that art? I would have to say yes, because the work posed a question and the artist gives me a feeling of wonder, can I associate myself to this dot, thinking of what I can associate with a dot on canvas. Can that particular artwork be random? It poses the question, is randomness art? Yes, because that dot makes the person think and question. Art can also have intentions, which suggests that the artist might intend to make the person think, associate themselves with the dot. The viewer may feel that the dot is just a dot, that it has no meaning to them. The point is, it made them think, and art makes you think. Someone else may think otherwise and associate the dot to themselves being alone and lost. It is their interpretation. They find a meaning and/or association for themselves. As I mentioned earlier, love is like art, art is like love, so love may be a consideration of art. Art and love both involve emotions. Some art, such as paintings, can affect people in certain ways. A painting that I can relate to or associate to is Gustav Kilmts, The Kiss. It is a painting of a man holding and kissing a woman so passionately. His emotion displays a feeling of love, like the beginning of a new relationship. As if they are in a world of their own and no one can tear them apart. That particular painting reminds me of what love, passion, and a kiss should be like. Most the time, the beginning of a new relationship can bring out the best feelings someone could ever have; its as if a couple are in a bubble and nothing in the world matters when they are together. People know when they feel so much for someone, and if they forget, art can remind them. The love can also be an art, an art work in progress. It is as if two artists are getting to together and are working on their creation, being that their love is art. Feelings such as happiness, sadness, anger, and enlightenment, are all put into that creation of art relationship. Love is an art, and it takes work, just like an artist who works on his/her paintings. Opinions of art vary for me. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance The measurement of nuclear and electron magnetic resonance on bulk materials was made possible by Felix Bloch and Edward Purcell and in 1952 they shared the Nobel Prize in Physics for their work. Until then, magnetic resonance was a measurable phenomena in which atoms were shot through a magnet as a beam. This was the work of Rabi. Therefore, the Nobel Prize quality in Bloch and Purcell's work was not in the theory of magnetic resonance itself, but in the development of instruments which would measure this phenomena in bulk material such as liquids and solids. These two laboratories were uniquely suited for this work. Bloch was a great quantum mechanic and is credited with much quality work in the quantum mechanics of solids. Purcell is an electricity and magnetism physicist who worked on projects like radar during the war. His experience in radiofrequency electronics aided in the development of his NMR instrument. Bloch's firm grasp of quantum mechanics allowed him to look at the pr oblem of magnetic resonance classically, while Purcell's classical background forced him to look at NMR with a quantum mechanic approach and develop a spectrometer much like the optical spectrometers. There is a quantum mechanical property of electrons and some nuclei called spin. In the absence of an externally applied magnetic field, this property is not observable. However, even in optical experiments, this property can be observed when a magnetic field is applied. It was the appearance of split lines in spectroscopic experiments that caused the need for quantum mechanics to include this property. Purcell looked at the magnetic resonance experiment with the eyes of an optical spectroscopist. He built a double beam spectrometer. The two channels were identical except that in one channel an external magnetic field was applied. His instrument scanned through the magnetic field and when transitions between the spin energy levels were made, he would notice that the power in the channel with the magnet would be less than that without. Thus he could precisely measure the frequency and the difference in energy between the two energy levels. This energy level picture is simple and the m ethod of measuring correlates directly to that of double beam optical methods with which we are all familiar. However, it does not correspond well with the methods used to measure NMR today. It does correlate with continuous wave spectrometers such as those used in EPR. However, it was a perfectly good way to measure the phenomena and one which we would have been able to invent as well with our knowledge of optical spectroscopy. The nuclei of some atoms, but not all, behave as if they were rotating, or spinning, about an axis passed through them, much as a top spins about its central axis. This is quite easily visualized in terms of the particle nature of the nucleus; it is less easily visualized in terms of the wave picture, which by now we know is another face of nature that is manifested in the atomic/molecular realm. Spin of nuclei is similar to electron spin. Examples of atoms whose nuclei spin are hydrogen, fluorine, the 13 isotope of carbon, and the 15 isotope of nitrogen. Science Essays
